LONDON FIX
|
New York composer Tom Hamilton turns gold into music in his latest CD titled “London Fix.” The recent bull market in gold has rekindled investor interest in the metal, and this first-of-its-kind recording traces these dramatic price moves through flowing synthesizer lines. To create the rippling patterns featured throughout this CD, Hamilton used his unique compositional system to convert fluctuations in spot gold price charts into streams of electronic sound. Much more poetic than literal, the musical result mirrors the ebb and flow of the market - sonic price charts intersecting and evolving in harmony. Played softly, this continuous stream of electronic music provides a curiously restful sound environment. This is not the first time that Hamilton has looked to unlikely sources for musical inspiration: An earlier CD titled “Off-Hour Wait State” traced movement and timing in the New York subway system, transforming a group of musical soloists into passengers and observers on a subway platform. Yet another sound installation - “Drains and Pipes Forever” - focused on sounds from a complex water distribution system. |
