In 2008 Bruce Arnold and Andrea Quartarone joined forces to record an
outstanding duet CD. Pulling from each other's repertoire and
adding free improvisations their two different styles meshed into a
cohesive sound. Throughout, each player listened and responded with
great sensitivity, yielding a unique sonic interplay.
Some of the hightlights are:
"Heard Instinct," (title cut) a minor blues composed by Bruce.
"Mr. AQ" another blues reminiscent of the great Pat Martino
compositions from the 70's.
Bruce's "Front and Back" a salute to Thelonius Monk with sharp
edged melody and dissonant harmonies.
"Factorial" is a fast moving piece highlighting Bruce's use of shifting
hexatonic harmonies.
"Trickle up," "A Short Minuet," "Cascade" and "Whirlpool" are
spontaneous free improvisations that demonstrate the close interaction
the musicians attained in the course of the sessions.
