You are required to perform 3 contrasting jazz standards demonstrating your ability to play the melody, improvise and comp. You must also prepare a written solo piece for the audition. For an audition tape we just need you to play a head (melody of tune) and then solo on the changes to a jazz standard for a couple of chorus (repeats of the form). You could record the changes and then play over that as a backing track or you can use a Jamey Aebersold http://www.aebersold.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc type of recording as a backing track. You can get the standards from The Real Book http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0634060384/qid%3D1111604170/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/104-6088592-6729504 Some recommended standards would be All the Things you Are Alone Together Autumn Leaves Blue Bossa Blues for Alice Confirmation I Love You Invitation Lady Bird My Romance Out of Nowhere Solar Stella By Starlight Tune Up 1. If we have more than 5 underaged applicants NYU will higher a person to live in the dorms and escort underaged students to various activities. This is a New York State Law and it doesn't matter if we have parental approval for an unsupervised stay in the NYU Dorms. So far we have always had enough underaged students to allow underaged students to attend. If you are underaged you should explain in your application or with an additional letter that you understand that your application will only be approved once there are enough underaged applicants.
