The Music of Bruce Arnold

12 Tone music has held a real fascination for me for many years. This book represents some of my explorations into this type of composition and my attempts to create something original with the possibilities inherent in the structures created by this concept. I continue to push these concepts and find new and interesting sounds each time I compose and improvise with them. I particularly enjoy the fact that not only can you create fresh sounding compositions with these structures but you can also directly apply this information to the standard jazz repertoire. These contemporary applications of 20th Century Classical ideas to jazz are nothing new. Artists such as Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Richie Beirach and Dave Leibman have been exploring these ideas for years to derive and introduce new sounds into the jazz repertoire. Luckily there are many untapped resources waiting for a new generation of jazz artists to explore. I hope the ideas presented here create a springboard for your creativity.
