EXCERPT 1
The prerequisites for this book are "Ear Training One Note Complete" and the "Fanatic's Guide to Sight Singing and Ear Training." I also recommend working with the "Contextual Ear Training" method. The purpose of this book is to improve your key retention. Developing a strong sense of key makes many aspects of ear training easier. The idea is to slowly wean you away from having to hear a drone as a key reference and have the key cen-ter become a natural part of the way you hear. To do this you will work through a set of singing exercises where we slowly remove the drone until you can hear a I IV V cadence and then sing all the way through any exercise in this book by only getting a key reference to start. There are 4 CDs that accompany this book. These CDs slowly begin to interject silence while you continue to sing the exercise. You could also just pause CD1 and replay the drone if you need to reinforce the key center. You should start very slowly with a given tempo but over time you should be able to sing through any exercise in this book at a quarter note equals 80 bpm.
